Caregiver Support Groups

What is a caregiver support group?

A caregiver support group is designed to provide information, education, and emotional support to the family members of persons with Alzheimer's Disease or related disorders. Health care and social service providers, as well as other interested persons, are also welcome to participate.

Families are the primary caregivers for Alzheimer's victims. Because of the special stresses for these caregivers and the continual demand upon their emotional and physical energy, family members need the support of others who experience similar problems. It is difficult and unnecessary for families to try to cope alone. A support group provides the strength that comes from shared experience and mutual goals.

At the support group meetings, an opportunity is provided to exchange helpful ideas and suggestions. Programs on topics of concern are presented by social workers, physicians, pharmacists, lawyers, ministers, and other professionals. In addition, free educational material is available as well as information about other resources.

Family Support Groups are held free of charge. Visitors are always welcome.

For more information about our caregiver support group program, contact the Chapter office at (800) 636-3346 or via e-mail to Andrea Harrelson .
